What is the Youth Action Board?
As a youth-centered organization, it is vital for Youth Continuum to not only lead young people, but also be lead by young people. The Youth Action Board (YAB) plays an integral role in the ongoing development, direction and delivery of Youth Continuum services. YAB members work to support and evolve YC’s mission of preventing and addressing youth homelessness through community engagement, policy development, and political advocacy.

What are the benefits of YAB? 

• Join a fun and supportive community of youth with both shared and diverse experiences
• Gain experience and skills that can be applied to your personal life, professional life, and education
• Learn about the inner workings and barriers of the youth housing system
• Be a part of a safe and confidential space where you can receive guidance and help guide others
• Earn a $25 stipend per meeting for your participation and expertise

YAB Qualifications
After you apply to YAB, your application will be reviewed for potential acceptance by current YAB members and YC staff. YAB member qualifications include:

• Being a current client of YC or a New Haven area student
• Age 25 or younger
• Must be able to commit to mandatory YAB meetings twice a month

If you do not have your own computer for virtual meetings and other activities, our staff will work with you to secure reliable technology.

• Planning and facilitating trainings for new Y2Y New Haven shelter volunteers
• Performing at Long Wharf Theater’s community production entitled Elders & Newcomers 
• Volunteering at New Haven’s annual Cherry Blossom Festival
• Traveling to Y2Y Harvard Square to learn more about the Y2Y program
• Meeting with CT lawmakers at the State Capitol
• Participating in Y2Y New Haven policy development workshops
• Drafting testimony in support of New Haven’s Homeless Bill of Rights
• Engaging in creative writing workshops intended to help process personal trauma
